Saint-Vio, 29720 Tréguennec
Treguennec has 2 chapels.
Situated in a magnificent setting, the chapel of Saint Vio may be the smallest of the Bigouden chapels, but it's well worth the diversions. Barely fifty square metres, this "chapellig", nestling in a fold of dunes on the Tréguennec marshland, is so low with its little outside staircase, its bell tower covered in bright yellow lichen, and its doors that require you to bow your head to enter.
Those who know it will fall in love with it. Abundantly photographed, painted and filmed in "Le crabe tambour", its history is nothing extraordinary, but the legends that surround it take us from Ireland to the Bay of Audierne, from the fountain to its hemispherical stone, a witness to Celtic civilisation.
The Saint-Vio fountain dates back to the 16th century, with a wash-house just downstream and a stele dating back to the Iron Age.
