Relaxation beaches

For lovers of immaculate sand, translucent water and calm, for those who want to lay down their towel, lie back and let themselves be engulfed by the feeling of peace… And for those who want to relax with their family on a supervised beach.

Beaches with children

You’ve barely packed your suitcases and your children, shovels and buckets in hand, are already clamouring to get to the beach… Admittedly, you’re also longing to put down your towel and dive into a good book! The Bigouden region has a wealth of beaches, each more beautiful than the last.

For the little ones: plage des 4 vents in Lesconil (very sheltered) – plage de l’Île-Tudy (shallow water, gentle slope) and all the south-facing beaches. Enjoy!

Beaches supervised

In the Pays Bigouden, 11 beaches along the coast are supervised during July and August. Lifeguards are usually on duty in the afternoon.

A bathing area is marked out and flags indicate whether bathing is open or closed.

Beaches with white sand

The famous white sand beach at Loctudy is a real eye-catcher. The 4 Vents beach in Lesconil also rolls out its immaculate carpet for a moment of idleness or to take your best holiday photo!

Beaches with shade

It’s the ideal combination: the beach and a few shady spots nearby.

You can take shelter under the pine trees between two swims at the plage de l’Île-Tudy (plage du Sillon). Picnic tables, children’s games, a football pitch and a nautical centre are also waiting for you there.

You can also enjoy a spot of sunbathing in the shade of the rocks at Plage de Kersaux in Léchiagat!

But don’t forget your sun cream!

Beaches accessible

Various facilities are available to make bathing and access to the sea easier. Click on each sheet to find out what equipment is available on the beach.

  • Hippocampe: this wheelchair can be used on difficult terrain, such as beaches or footpaths.
  • Tiralo: this wheelchair allows any accompanied person to ride on the beach and float on calm waters.
  • Handiquatro: this wheelchair can be used on difficult terrain.

The Ster beach at Penmarc’h has been awarded the Handiplage label.

Precious beaches

Let’s take a few simple steps to protect Brittany’s coastline and beaches.

  • Use a sun cream that doesn’t pollute the sea when sunbathing.
  • When we leave the beach, make sure there’s no rubbish left behind.
  • Pebbles maintain the dune, so leave them where they are and don’t move them.
  • Use public or soft transport to get to the beach as much as possible.
  • In the vicinity of the beach, favour non-motorised activities.
  • Don’t chase birds along the water’s edge. Did you know that chasing birds frightens them and makes them tired?
  • Let’s become“eco-Bigoudens”! Take part in litter-picking sessions organised by a number of local associations, such as the Surfrider Foundation’s ocean initiatives.
  • Find out about the risks and specific characteristics of each beach by reading the information boards at the various beach entrances and first-aid posts.
  • Dogs are not allowed on most beaches in the Pays Bigouden during the summer (even on a lead), for health reasons and to protect the flora and fauna. On the beaches of Penmarc’h, dogs on a lead are allowed from 1 May to 30 September from 8pm to 10am.
