Tradition

People come to Pays Bigouden for the sea, for the good food and the heritage, but above all they come to discover a rich and deeply-rooted culture.

In the heart of Pays Bigouden

In France, some regions have a strong culture and keep their traditions alive; Pays Bigouden is one of these.

Known as the birthplace of Brittany’s tallest traditional headdress, the Bigouden region is also where traditional Breton music and dance are played all year round.

It’s these three elements – the headdress, the costume and the dance– that keep the tradition alive and well, to the delight of visitors and the pride of the local people.

Spotlight on... The Bigouden headdress

Where can you see Bigouden headdresses in real life? In museums, sometimes alongside headdresses from other Breton countries. More festive: during the traditional festivals that brighten up the summer in Cornouaille, such as the Festival des Brodeuses in Pont-l’Abbé, for example.
