Marinas

Marinas are used for activities other than professional fishing. So you can see sailing boats, but also small craft used for non-professional fishing. Marinas are inviting places to stroll around and are often places to relax and enjoy life.

Sheltered from the elements

Inhabitants have often chosen the folds of the coastline to escape the elements. A cove or inlet could be used as a natural hiding place to anchor your boat in case of heavy weather. Sometimes breakwaters or dykes were built to provide even greater safety.

Harbours therefore have a varied appearance, depending on their history and the setting in which they developed.
