Inshore rescue

Inshore lifesaving has become a sporting discipline in its own right, involving seamanship, rowing, swimming, team spirit and first aid. A number of organisations are offering adults and children the chance to join their ranks.

A fun sport that saves lives

The Australians were the first to turn lifesaving into a real sport, with training, clubs and competitions. The discipline has developed in the Basque Country, and in recent years schools have sprung up in Brittany. As well as providing first aid training, it’s a complete programme and, above all, a lot of fun!

The different types of inshore rescue:

  • paddle boarding
  • surf ski (very slender sea kayak)
  • beach flag (for the sporting part)
  • learning first aid techniques
  • knowledge of the marine environment (weather, currents, waves, etc.).
