the Bigouden region A land of water sports

The water sports centres in the Pays Bigouden offer a wide range of water-based activities: catamaran, dinghy, kayak, Optimist, windsurfing, stand-up paddle, water walking, etc.

Whether you hire or take a weekly course, you can learn or improve your skills. For children and teenagers, the weekly courses are a real opportunity to share and meet new people.

Here are a few ideas:

  • Go kayaking with an instructor at Les Étocs in Penmarc’h
  • Discover water-walking at Île-Tudy beach
  • Learn to windsurf at Loctudy
  • Take a surfing lesson at La Torche or Penhors
  • Go kayaking on the river at Pont-l’Abbé
  • Discover paddle boarding in the turquoise waters of Lesconil
  • Go catamaran sailing off the coast of Guilvinec.

Boating

Towards Loctudy, l’Île-Tudy and Sainte-Marine, the south-south-east-facing coastline shelters quiet spots, far from the swirls of the open sea. The sea is calm and translucent. It’s the ideal place to start a water sport in complete peace of mind, or for young children.

For a unique experience for the whole crew, climb aboard the Misainier, an old sailing ship that can accommodate several apprentice sailors.

Take advantage of the group emulation to take on the Bigouden waves.

Pointe de la Torche is THE reference surf spot. Penhors, further north, is also a sure bet. The atmosphere here is cool and relaxed, with restaurants and bars right on the water, where you can sip a drink facing the sea while debriefing your session.

For those who prefer speed, there are sand yachtswaiting to split the sands of Penhors and race these little machines.

Along the 90km of coastline in the Bigouden region, there are some little-frequented stretches of sand where you can find yourself alone, facing the horizon, rowing or paddling in complete tranquillity, with only the cry of the gulls and the sound of the surf to keep you company.

Whether in a kayak or a paddle, the river at Pont-l’Abbé lends itself perfectly to a moment of peace and quiet. The river slaloms peacefully between islets where migratory birds nest. A bubble of silence in a green setting, where you can recharge your batteries…

Thanks to the Gulf Stream, the warm current that tempers the waters of Finistère, the Bigouden region is ideal for water sports activities all year round! Even if the “ayatollahs” of surfing will tell you that autumn is the ideal season for surfing.

The kônog (west wind in Breton) blows all year round, propelling catamarans and windsurfers out to sea.

In summer, the thermal breeze almost always picks up in the afternoon, so you can be sure of tacking, while the summer swell gently wraps around the Pointe de la Torche for surfers in need of waves…
