Beaches for relaxation

If you love pristine sand, translucent water and tranquillity, look no further! Find a spot where you can set down your beach bag, lie back and unwind peacefully on the sand… And for those who want to relax with their family we also have beaches with lifeguards.

Beaches for children

You’ve barely packed your suitcases and your children, shovels and buckets in hand, are already clamouring to get to the beach. Admittedly, you’re also longing to put down your towel and dive into a good book! Pays Bigouden has a wealth of beaches, each more beautiful than the last.

For the little ones: Plage des 4 vents in Lesconil (very sheltered) – Plage de l’Île-Tudy (shallow water, gentle slope) and all the south-facing beaches. Enjoy!

Beaches with lifeguards

In Pays Bigouden, 11 beaches along the coast have lifeguards during July and August, usually on duty in the afternoon.

An area is marked out and flags indicate whether swimming is advised or not.

Beaches with white sand

The famous white-sand beach at Loctudy is a real eye-catcher. The 4 Vents beach in Lesconil also rolls out its immaculate carpet for lounging around and is a great backdrop for taking your best holiday photo!

Beaches with shade

It’s the ideal combination: the golden beach and a few shady spots nearby.

You can take shelter under the pine trees at Île-Tudy (plage du Sillon). Picnic tables, children’s games, a football pitch and a nautical centre are also waiting for you there.

You can also enjoy a spot of sunbathing in the shade of the rocks at Plage de Kersaux in Léchiagat!

And of course, don’t forget your sun cream!

Beaches accessible

Various facilities are available to make it easier to take a dip and go swimming. Click on each sheet to find out what equipment is available on the beach.

  • Hippocampe: this wheelchair can be used on difficult terrain, such as beaches or footpaths.
  • Tiralo: this wheelchair allows any accompanied person to ride on the beach and float on calm waters.
  • Handiquatro: this wheelchair can be used on difficult terrain.

Le Ster beach and Pors Carn beach in Penmarc’h have been awarded the Handiplage label for their facilities.

Precious beaches

Let’s take a few simple steps to protect Brittany’s coastline and beaches.

  • Use a sun cream that doesn’t pollute the sea when sunbathing.
  • When leaving the beach, make sure there’s no rubbish left behind.
  • Pebbles maintain the dune, so leave them where they are and don’t move them.
  • Use public or soft transport to get to the beach as much as possible.
  • In the vicinity of the beach, favour non-motorised activities.
  • Don’t chase birds along the water’s edge. Did you know that chasing birds frightens them and makes them tired?
  • Let’s become“eco-Bigoudens”! Take part in litter-picking sessions organised by a number of local associations, such as the Surfrider Foundation’s ocean initiatives.
  • Find out about the risks and specific characteristics of each beach by reading the information boards at the various beach entrances and first-aid posts.
  • Dogsare not allowed on most beaches in Pays Bigouden during the summer (even on a lead), for health reasons and to protect the flora and fauna. Dogs on a lead are allowed on the beaches of Penmarc’h, from 1 May to 30 September from 8pm to 10am.
