Some thirty carcasses of pinnaces 12 to 15 metres long, built in the late 1920s, and small wooden trawlers 15 metres and over, built after 1935, are still visible in the mud. The trawlers, known as "malamocks" after the Petrel Fulmar, trawled until 1960.
