ACHTUNG BABIES got their start in Rome in 1993. They made their debut at the Palladium Theater, where they performed the world's first ever U2 tribute concert, a live show with a repertoire entirely dedicated to the Irish band.
The existence of a band exclusively dedicated to the music of U2 quickly attracted thousands of fans in Italy.
As word spread, ACHTUNG BABIES began performing regularly in Rome, and then throughout Italy, in collaboration with U2's official Italian fan club (U2Backstage), and then with Universal, the band's record label. Universal has involved the band in a number of major promotional events throughout the country, including the presentation of the Italian concerts on U2's POP Mart tour, where Bono personally saluted the band in an interview on Radio Dee Jay Network.
At the same time, ACHTUNG BABIES' touring schedule grew, with the band appearing in numerous print and radio interviews, as well as on television: on RAI news programmes, on music programmes on Swiss television, on Spanish national television (where they even appeared on the prime-time news), on Turkish television and on several Mediaset music programmes, including a full-length report on the popular programme Le Iene. Their many television appearances include a full concert filmed and broadcast on the satellite channel Match Music, and above all the PIM (Italian Music Awards), where ACHTUNG BABIES shared the stage with international stars such as Vasco Rossi, Litfiba, Skunk Anansie and Ligabue, and received the award for Best Group of the Year on behalf of U2. The national press and media have been full of praise for ACHTUNG BABIES, who are seen as a brand new project, totally independent and self-financed, capable of achieving results unattainable even for artists with big budgets and the advantages of the industry, without a label or production.
