Religious celebration in St Peter's Chapel. St Peter is often depicted carrying two keys: one made of gold, the celestial key, and the other made of silver, the earthly key. This gives him the power to open and close the gates of Paradise. His pagan Roman counterpart is the god Janus, who also carries keys, but for the past and the future.
