A visual symbol of Loctudy and Ile-Tudy, the Perdrix turret is located at sea at the entrance to the fishing port of Loctudy, to signal a dangerous rock for ships. A simple wooden mast in 1872, it was replaced by a beacon in 1886. The current 17.40 m turret was erected in 1889. It began operating in 1918. Initially painted red, it was covered in its famous black and white chequered pattern in 1947. Replaced in 2000 by red and green buoys, it retains its 64 chequered tiles thanks to the determination of the two municipalities concerned.
