Tréguennec

Between protected moorland and Audierne Bay, welcome to the wild coastline of the Bigouden region! Tréguennec is also a little paradise for surfers.

Getting there

Wild landscape and the power of the elements

The small commune of Tréguennec has plenty to offer. Strolling along the long beaches is like being rocked by the wind, the sound of the waves and the dance of the plants in the dunes.

The GR® 34, La Littorale cycle route no. 45 and the Route du Vent solaire run along this immense coastline. The twists and turns take you on a journey through a verdant, undulating world that’s an incredible change of scenery. A Celtic setting, a little Ireland in the heart of the Bigouden region. You feel small but full of energy. Behind the dunes, paths weave through the moorland.

The Conservatoire du Littoral guards and preserves this natural environment on a daily basis. Rare birds, fragile plants and pebbles depend on your attention!

The must-haves

A former farmhouse on the banks of the Etang de Saint-Vio, the Maison de la Baie is open from May to October and offers nature activities, exhibitions on flora and fauna, films and lectures. It’s also a place where you can talk to enthusiastic volunteers.

An Art and Nature trail, featuring works of art created in the heart of nature, was launched a few years ago with the active participation of the local population. Discover it for yourself!

Built in 1941 by the Germans during their occupation of the Bigouden region, the plant began crushing pebbles in June 1942.

The finished product, gravel, was used to build the Atlantic Wall. Imagine that the railway line was extended to reach this plant.

After the war, the plant was used to help rebuild Brest and the roads of southern Finistère. In 1948, the decision was taken to finish off the last stocks and the factory closed.

The chapel is dedicated to the hermit Saint-Vio.

It is the smallest of the Bigoudenchapels .

There is a stele nearby and, opposite it, a 16th-century fountain whose water is said to have miraculous properties.

The pardon takes place on the last Sunday in June.

Situated along the Route du Vent Solaire in the heart of the Bay of Audierne, the Etang de Saint-Vio is a great place to take a stroll and discover the local flora and fauna.

The Maison de la Baie d’Audierne is once again a lively place to visit exhibitions and take part in events such as the walks led by Steven, a nature guide with the Pays Bigouden Sud community of municipalities.
