An Afro-electro concert to dance to
Ouaga 2000 celebrates the sounds and dances of West Africa: a rousing blend of traditional and contemporary music, brought to life by group dance routines that gradually draw the audience into the spirit of a huge folk festival. On stage, choreographer and singer Evelyne Mambo, accompanied by musicians Gurvan Loudoux and Amadou Diao, invites young and old alike to immerse themselves in a world inspired by their childhood memories and the maquis of Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire, those places of life and sharing where music resounds at full volume.
The journey takes in the percussion of the Fulani, Toussian and Dozo peoples, and Congolese rumba, before building to a collective trance blending afropunk, afrodisco and electronic music — before settling down, for the duration of a lullaby inherited from their youth, for a gentle, suspended moment.
With a confident groove and infectious joy, Ouaga 2000 explores the musical and cultural treasures of West Africa, bridging the gap between personal memory and living heritage.
