Description
The CGT local union in the Pays Bigouden has decided to commemorate the struggle of the women sardine fishers of Lesconil, which began on 26 July 1926.
In 1926–1927, major strikes by sardine fishers took place in the Pays Bigouden.
On 26 July 1926, the strike began in Lesconil at the Billet, Lémyet and Maingourd factories
This strike had a major impact across the whole of the Pays Bigouden, as it was the first time that female factory workers had united to organise a large-scale movement, given the number of strikers and the duration of the strike (one year).
We have decided to pay tribute to these women and also to look back on all the social struggles from 1926 to 2026.
