Mississippi trip
With both hands in the clay soil on the banks of the Garonne, a poet-storyteller brings to life, in alexandrines, the memory of Clarisse, an elderly lady who lived a rich life near the Mississippi before being, according to local beliefs, swallowed up by the spirits of the river.
The delightful Inès Cassigneul, in a yellow apron with a banjo slung over her shoulder, recounts this fantastical journey to us. Ghosts speak to the living, supernatural creatures emerge from their hiding places, and dreamscapes and reality intermingle to form imaginary confluences. Memory traces its way back along the colourful meanders of the Mississippi – or perhaps those of the Gironde estuary. A narrative construction that shifts boundaries. A whimsical tribute to life.
