Description
July 1926 in Lesconil. The factory workers went on strike, chanting “Pemp real a vo” – “We’ll have five réaux!”
At Mathilde’s, it’s all go. Nana, Mathilde, Katell and Marjannick are embroidering banners, singing, bantering and organising demonstrations across the Bigouden region.
Here, trade unionist Charles Tillon, the parish priest, the factory manager and the postman cross paths with the women of Bigouden in memorable and delightful verbal sparring matches. Against a backdrop of serious social unrest, the striking sardine canners prove to be brilliant, imaginative, assertive and funny.
A comedy by Noëlle Cousinié, directed by Céline Poli and performed by the Troupe du Lac on the very site of the old cannery.
