Description

The COP Bike Ride is an international citizens’ initiative that connects the United Nations Climate Change Conferences (COPs) by bike, with the aim of promoting everyday cycling as a practical way to reduce our carbon footprint. Our aim is to take action on two complementary levels: At a local level, by organising public events along the route with the support of local organisations and authorities, but also – and above all – by securing commitments from local authorities to develop their cycling policies by 2030. At an international level, by connecting countries and cycling communities through ‘for everyone’ stages of 50–70 km, which allow participants to explore the regions they pass through over the course of a day (or more!), staying with local communities, in hostels or at campsites. In 2025, this massive participatory relay, bringing together nearly 1,000 cyclists, cycled from Baku (Azerbaijan) to Belém (Brazil) over more than 20,000 km, including a sailing trip from Lisbon! This year, the COP Bike Ride will link Belém to Antalya, in Turkey, where COP31 will take place in November. We’re aiming for 10,000 cyclists to take part! Several routes will set off from Europe, including one that will depart from Pointe Du Raz on the morning of Saturday 18 July 2026, with the relay continuing non-stop towards Turkey. Departure at 10.00 am from Peumerit, stop at Pont-l’Abbé at 12.00 pm, meeting with local councillors, then the journey ends in Quimper. There is the option to cycle part of the route: Peumerit–Pont-l’Abbé or Pont-l’Abbé–Quimper, and to take part in the picnic and various events.
