Cycling circuits

Cycling on the rivers?

Yes, you and your family can cycle the rivers of Pont-l’Abbé and Odet, thanks to the P’tit Bac foot-passenger ferry.

  • Crossing the Pont-l’Abbé river from Loctudy to Île-Tudy
  • Crossing the Odet river from Sainte-Marine to Bénodet

If you want to go from one village to another, you can take the P’tit Bac ferry with your bike. This saves you time on the cycle route and gives you the added bonus of a mini-cruise.

  • Board at the last pontoon of the marina on the Loctudy side and at the end of the slipway on the Île-Tudy side.
  • On the Sainte-Marine side, board at the end of the small slipway next to the Café de la Cale.

Old railway lines

In the Bigouden region, two routes follow old railway lines.

The first follows the green lane between Pont-l’Abbé and Pluguffan, while the second follows the tracks of the Birinik train between Pont-l’Abbé and Saint-Guénolé. Two options that guarantee safety while taking you back in time.

The Greenway between Pont-l'Abbé and Pluguffan

This route starts in Pont-l’Abbé next to the recycling centre (car park nearby).

The Greenway – or voie verte – takes you as far as the Kermathéano junction between Pluguffan and Plomelin. Ideal for families as it is very safe, this 12km path also has the advantage of being shady and easy to follow.

But do look out for the level crossings, where you’ll need to be vigilant to cross the road safely.

Birinik Train cycle route

This new route crosses the whole of Pays Bigouden Sud, from north to south-west, covering almost 20 kilometres.

It starts in the historic town centre of Pont-l’Abbé and finishes at the fishing port of Saint-Guénolé. It passes through a total of 5 different towns and villages.

In case you’re curious, birinik is the nickname given to the old railway line that ran through part of the area. This itinerary is suitable for everyone, especially families.

Away from busy roads, it offers a safe environment thanks to its various facilities (cycle paths, green lanes, safe crossings, road markings, etc).

Getting to the beach by bike

Leave the car behind and cycle as much as possible. That’s what holidays are all about! As a bonus, you’re doing your bit for the planet and soaking up the sea air. A few kilometres on the pedals, and voilà! Ready to take to the water?

Here are the different links between the town and the beach.
