Plonéour-Lanvern

Just 20 minutes from Quimper and 10 minutes from Pont-l’Abbé, discover Plonéour-Lanvern, the crossroads of the Bigouden region: a dynamic market town in the heart of lush green countryside.

Getting there

Ideal for families

In the heart of the Bigouden region, Plonéour-Lanvern is the ideal place to set down your bags and visit the sights of South Finistère: the fine sandy beaches of Tréguennec and the town of Pont-l’Abbé are just 10 minutes away, and the fishing ports of Guilvinec and Penmarc’h are just a short drive away.

Local points of interest include the Moulin Neuf lake, which invites you to take a leisurely stroll, and the village shops, which offer everything you need for your stay.

The park and Halle Raphalen have a few surprises in store: entertainment, gatherings, concerts and outdoor games for children and teenagers.

For heritage lovers, there are some pretty chapels to discover nearby.

The must-haves

The 65-hectare Moulin Neuf reservoir straddles the communes of Tréméoc and Plonéour-Lanvern and supplies drinking water to the communes around Pont-l’Abbé.

The Moulin Neuf lake is easy to walk around. The footpath around the lake offers a shady 7-kilometre walk, during which you can enjoy birdwatching and observe the local flora. Away from traffic, it’s an ideal route for walking your dog, for example.

Classed as a2nd category lake, it is very popular with anglers (you must have a fishing licence).

In the footsteps of the Carrot Train: a 6-kilometre interpretation trail along an old railway line that traces the history of the goods train that used to run through the Bigouden region.

Introduced in 1912, this line with its many stops mainly transported vegetables, but was also used to carry passengers. Its existence had a considerable impact on the economy of the Bigouden region in the early 20th century.

The walk alternates between woodland paths, field tracks and a few stretches of tarmac road.

Parking: Place du 8 mai 1945, rue du Château d’eau, Plonéour-Lanvern.
Marking: yellow.
Direction of route: anticlockwise
Field markings always take precedence over paper or digital documents.

🐶 Dogs are welcome on this trail. Please take care, as the route passes over busy roads where you should keep your dog on a lead.

The Raphalen park is the ideal place to take a stroll or have a picnic: just a short walk from the town centre, you’ll find children’s play equipment, a city stadium with skate park and pumptrack, a landscaped path and pleasant shady spots to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the town.

Next to the park, theEspace Raphalen regularly hosts events, entertainment and indoor concerts.

The chapel of Languivoa was beheaded from its steeple in 1675 for sounding the tocsin during the Red Bonnet Revolt.

Other buildings worth a visit in Plonéour-Lanvern include the chapel of Saint-Philibert de Lanvern, the chapel of Bonne-Nouvelle and its green area, ideal for a picnic break, and the church of Saint-Enéour, located in the market town of Plonéour-Lanvern (see below).

Pancake festival and other events

In Plonéour-Lanvern, the Pancake Festival is an institution. Every August, the local events committee organises this friendly gathering at the Halle Raphalen. Come and enjoy a digest of Bigouden culture in good spirits!

Other associations have their own highlights, starting with the Shaker association, which organises a number of events throughout the year, all with a quirky twist. The Shaker Fest (next to be held in 2026) is one of their main events, a retro-neo-burlesque festival that takes you back in time to the years of Prohibition. Other unusual events (electro picnics, Électrolympiades, etc.) will surprise you.
