Description

The commune of Penmarc’h alone boasts 4.9 km of beaches. The magnificent family-friendly beach at Le Steir enjoys an ideal south-facing position and stretches for 3.9 km within a natural dune landscape overlooking the Etocs archipelago. It’s a great spot for swimming and water sports in a family-friendly atmosphere. In season, the water sports centre behind the beach offers activities such as catamaran sailing, kayaking and windsurfing. Situated in Kérity, very close to the magnificent Eckmühl lighthouse, this beach is also perfect for shore fishing. The beach is lifeguarded daily from 1 pm to 7 pm between 5 July and 31 August. This beach has a car park, showers, toilets and a nearby playground. In Kérity: cinema, restaurants, cafés. Nearest bus stops (1 km): Poulguen or Kérity 👩🏽‍🦽‍➡️People with reduced mobility: 2 reserved parking spaces, a beach mat, and adapted tables and benches. A Tiralo and Handiquatro are available in July and August, during the opening hours of the first-aid post at Ster Beach (which holds the ‘Handiplage’ certification), from 1 pm to 7 pm. Booking is essential by calling 02 98 58 60 19. An accompanying person is required for the Tiralo. Another way to enjoy the beaches and dunes: walk along the dune ridge via the GR34, the legendary ‘sentier des douaniers’ (customs officers’ path). Running is also very popular here. Recommendations: - The dunes and coastal vegetation are very fragile! Help to preserve them by using only the paths designated for walking. Please do not climb over the wooden fences. - For your safety, the walking trails are for pedestrians only. Cycle routes have been set up for cyclists. - No, the beaches aren’t dirty! The seaweed on the shore consists of seaweed, which isn’t rubbish but a natural by-product of a living ocean. It’s a rich environment that promotes biodiversity. - Yes, even in Brittany the sun can cause you a few problems! Protect your skin with high-factor sun cream, avoid exposure between 12 noon and 3 pm, and wear sunglasses! - Shore fishing is a highly recommended activity! But watch out for the tide, which can catch you out, even if you’re an experienced beachcomber! To ensure this special experience remains a pleasure, make sure you check the tide times and don’t set off without your mobile phone! If possible, let someone staying on dry land know about your outing. Also, check with the tourist office regarding minimum catch sizes and any temporary bans. Your catch must remain alive until it is cooked or eaten. Dogs on the beach Under a local by-law, dogs are permitted on the beaches (on a lead): - From 1 May to 30 September: from 8 pm to 10 am - From 1 October to 30 April: no time restrictions
