Description

Greek democracy is in peril. The man who has seized power is none other than a leather merchant who, by dint of lies and broken promises, has reduced the people to a powerless old man. Two servants of Demos (the people) decide to intervene by convincing a simple sausage merchant to take on the leather merchant in a contest of oratory. It was the Cavaliers, young representatives of the Athenian middle class, who supported the sausage merchant. Once the leather merchant had been defeated, he would govern Greece under their cultural and social leadership. And so it was! As if by a miracle, the old people metamorphosed into a vigorous youth. Revitalised by new lifeblood, they rediscover hope for a better future, much to the delight of an enthusiastic audience. Written by Aristophanes in the 5th century BC, The Cavaliers won first prize at the Lenées in 424 BC. A musical comedy loosely based on the play of the same name by Aristophanes. Directed by Carlo Bosso. Stopover during the "Les Tréteaux du Phare" festival from Penmarc'h to Sainte-Marine.
