Illumination is a medieval book-based pictorial art that developed during the Middle Ages in different styles depending on the period. It began in the Merovingian period with a few painted initials and reached its peak in the Gothic period, with small, veritable manuscript paintings. Illumination is none other than the ancestor of comics and illustration, and the refined and sober style of the 13th century echoes our contemporary graphic design.

In 2010, Marie-Andrée Thibault changed her life and enrolled at ISEEM in Angers, the only illumination school in France.
Awarded the title of Illuminator of France in September 2012, and a medieval graphic designer for four months at ISEEM in 2013, she has since regularly participated in exhibitions, painting fairs, and antique book fairs in Angers and its surrounding areas, in the Cévennes, Vendée, and Finistère.
