The rich history of Tronoën Calvary

"Visit the chapel and calvary and re-live the history told by the stones"

The Cathedral of the Dunes has kept watch over the coast and Bay of Audierne since the 15th century. The calvary tells an age-old story… Some say that it is the equivalent of a strip cartoon of that era. No need to know how to read to decode its message, the calvary follows the story of the Gospel from the childhood of Christ to his Passion.

Guided tours : mid-July to mid-August every day except all day Saturday and Sunday morning. 10.30 – 13.00, 15.00 – 18.30.

Sunset over the ruins of Languidou

The Chapel of Languidou is typical of the architectural style of the Pont Croix School. Although it is now in ruins, its immense rose window remains intact and at sunset the sun’s rays pass through the filigree stonework, bathing the site in a mystic aura.

Practical info : on the Route de Languidou in Plovan. Free access. Car park nearby.

Le Pardon de Penhors, a traditional Breton religious festival

Every year, on the first weekend in September, the Chapelle de Penhors in Pouldreuzic holds its annual religious festival, known as a ‘pardon’, against the backdrop of the sea.  This ‘pardon’ is one of the largest in Pays Bigouden. It begins on the Saturday evening with a candlelit procession, followed by a grand procession the following day in which banners and crosses are carried to the statue of Notre Dame de Penhors overlooking the sea. The day ends with the blessing of the sea and Breton songs.

Practical info : First weekend of September. More details from Offices de Tourisme
