The Square Tower: a Vestige of a Magnificent Church
In 1488, the construction of a church with an impressive square tower was decided in the district now known as Saint-Guénolé. Formerly a chapel of the parish of Beuzec, the area called *Enez Raden* (Fern Island) gained importance thanks to its fisheries. It was then decided to replace the chapel of Saint Fiacre with a church. The nave measured 38 meters in length.

In 1488, the construction of a church with an impressive square tower was decided in the district now known as Saint-Guénolé. Formerly a chapel of the parish of Beuzec, the area called *Enez Raden* (Fern Island) gained importance thanks to its fisheries. It was then decided to replace the chapel of Saint Fiacre with a church. The nave measured 38 meters in length.
In 1722, a bishop's decree suppressed all services in the church, which was in danger of collapsing. Already in the 16th century—likely after the sacking of Penmarc’h by La Fontenelle—the inhabitants could no longer maintain the building. The church was eventually abandoned around 1745. A century later, the choir was closed off by a chapel and a roof was added to the tower.
Resemblance to the Tower of Saint Nonna
The Square Tower is topped with stone niches adorned with Gothic pinnacles. The west portal features a double entrance, topped by a large stained-glass window. At the top of the tower, there is a granite coat of arms—likely belonging to a family from the Cap Caval area. It resembles the one found on the tower of Saint Nonna.
